The Challenge
The client, a B2B service provider, wanted to evolve their business by transitioning into a data-driven company. Their existing operations were primarily manual, with limited use of data for decision-making and performance improvement.
To remain competitive and scale effectively, the client needed a clear strategy for integrating data-driven processes into their business model. This shift required a change in technology and significant adjustments to their internal processes and resources, thus assessing their current capabilities and developing a roadmap that would enable them to operate efficiently using data as a core asset.
Role of Consultport
To move from a traditional B2B service provider to a data-driven company, the client asked for Consultport support. Consultport provided a shortlist of data strategists within their network, all with strong experience in data transition and digital transformation. Ultimately, the client chose a data strategist consultant who had previously managed five similar projects in the B2B market.
The consultantβs role was to guide the client through a thorough review of their existing operations and technology infrastructure, identifying gaps that needed to be addressed in order to become a data-driven company. The consultant collaborated closely with the clientβs leadership to align the strategy with their business goals, ensuring that the proposed changes would be both practical and scalable.
The Approach
The consultant began by conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the clientβs current state, including their workflows, data collection methods, and technological setup. Working closely with the clientβs C-suites, the consultant successfully identified gaps in the company’s current tools, systems, and expertise, tailored to the projectβs objectives.
Once the initial assessment was complete, the consultant created a detailed technology roadmap. This roadmap outlined the architecture for a robust data infrastructure, including a data warehouse to store and organize the companyβs data. Key actions included also identifying tools required to collect, manage, and analyze data, and making recommendations on the best platforms for the clientβs specific needs. Additionally, data governance practices were established to ensure data quality and consistency across the organization.
In parallel with the technology plan, the consultant identified the key data streams that would be most valuable for the clientβs business. This involved setting up mechanisms to track customer behavior, monitor operational performance, and collect market insights, all of which would help inform strategic decision-making. These data streams were integrated into their daily operations, ensuring that data became an active part of the companyβs workflow.
The Results
At the end of the project, the client received a defined strategy for their transition into a data-driven company, with a clear transformation plan, a defined data infrastructure and key data streams integrated into the companyβs core operations.
Comprehensive Transformation Plan
The consultant delivered a clear step-by-step plan outlining the necessary changes in technology, processes, and staffing. This plan provided the client with a structured approach to moving from a traditional B2B service provider to a data-driven company, addressing both short-term and long-term needs.
Defined Data Infrastructure and Tools
The consultant provided detailed recommendations for the data infrastructure, including the implementation of a data warehouse and the selection of tools for data collection and analysis. These recommendations were tailored to the clientβs specific needs, allowing them to build a foundation for data-driven operations without unnecessary complexity or cost.
Identification of Key Data Streams and Tracking Mechanisms
The most critical data streams were identified, such as customer interaction data and operational performance metrics. Integrated with the data infrastructure, this allowed the client to track these data points in real time, enabling the company to make more informed, data-driven decisions on a daily basis.
Decision Memorandum for the Board
A final decision memorandum was prepared for the board of management, detailing the pros and cons of the proposed strategy. This document provided clear recommendations on the actions required to implement the data-driven transformation, giving the leadership team the information they needed to move forward confidently.
Thanks to the project we were able to take a step closer to our vision of converting our B2B service into a data-driven powerhouse.
